Blue Mountain Land Trust receives Wildhorse Foundation grant to strengthen conservation stewardship
Walla Walla, WA β Blue Mountain Land Trust has received a grant from the Wildhorse Foundation to strengthen the organization's ability to care for protected lands throughout the Blue Mountain region.
BMLT plans to use the funds to purchase new equipment, including a utility trailer and side-by-side UTV to support BMLT's stewardship team as they work on conservation properties and complete restoration and land management projects. The trailer and side-by-side UTV will improve access to remote areas, increase efficiency in transporting tools and materials, and help staff safely complete conservation work across the landscapes entrusted to our care.
"Conservation doesn't end when a property is protected. Stewardship is an ongoing commitment that requires the right equipment, strong partnerships, and dedicated care,β said Amanda Martino, BMLT Executive Director. βThis grant helps ensure we can continue restoring habitat, maintaining public access, and caring for the lands and waters that benefit our communities and wildlife."
BMLT is honored to partner with the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR) on conservation efforts that restore and protect ecologically and culturally significant landscapes throughout the region. Recent collaborations include the TΓΊuΕ‘i WΓ‘na river restoration project near Walla Walla and the UmaBirch project outside Pendleton, where partners are working together to improve watershed health, restore fish and wildlife habitat, and strengthen the long-term resilience of working lands.
Each year, the Wildhorse Foundation awards grants to eligible nonprofit, government, and Tribal organizations within the homeland area of the Cayuse, Umatilla, and Walla Walla people. The Foundation has awarded more than $20 million in grant funding since its establishment in 2001, supporting projects that strengthen communities throughout the region.
BMLT is grateful to the Wildhorse Foundation for this investment and to CTUIR for their continued partnership in advancing conservation across the region. Together, these partnerships help ensure that the lands and waters of the Blue Mountain region remain healthy and productive for future generations.

The fund reflects the commitment of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation to take a proactive, positive role in the well-being of the community. Funds, derived from a percentage of revenues from Wildhorse Resort & Casino, are managed and distributed by a Board of Directors composed of community leaders and representatives of the CTUIR.
