Overview

Saturday, October 31, 2020 — Halloween on the Mountain!

Description:     Horseshoe Prairie Nordic Ski Area.  This is a follow-up work party from October 17.  The Blues Crew has adopted Horseshoe Prairie Nordic Ski Area to expand recreational access to skiing and snowshoeing with groomed trails and improved signage.

We will be working to complete the following in preparation for the arrival of snow.

·        Brushing selected trails

·        Placing blue diamond trail markers

·        Placement of posts with trail directional signs

·        Repair of signage kiosk at the Hwy 204 entrance

Exertion Level:                          Moderate

COVID Precautions:                  Volunteers will be asked to self-certify that they are well on the day of the (per CDC) work party, without:  Fever or chills; Cough; Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing; Fatigue; Muscle or body aches; Headache; New loss of taste or smell; Sore throat; Congestion or runny nose; Nausea or vomiting; Diarrhea. At this time, Blues Crew Work Parties are limited to adults 18 years and older.

Cloth masks to be worn for group meetings and in automobiles.

 Schedule:

·        8:00am – Meet at USFS Umatilla National Forest Walla Walla District Ranger Station 1415 West Rose Street, Walla Walla.  Check-in, introductions, and carpool.

·        9:00 am – Arrive at Andies Prairie Parking lot (Hwy 204 near milepost 26) for initial orientation, paperwork, safety briefing, tool distribution and team assignments. Wearing a mask will be required.

·        9:30 am – Teams disperse to work sites.

·        Noon – Bring your own lunch

·        3 pm – Work complete.  Refreshments.  Debrief.  Return to Walla Walla

What to wear:                        

Waterproof Boots – no sneakers or sandals

Long pants and long-sleeved shirt

Layers of clothes – weather expected to be cool

Rain gear

Warm work gloves

Eye protection (glasses, sunglasses)

Ticks unlikely but can be present; gaiters can be helpful

What to bring:                        

Lunch, snacks and water

Cloth facemask

Daypack for personal gear

What it Takes to Do This Work Party:

  • No experience is necessary—just bring a great attitude for working with a team! Blues Crew leadership will provide training and tools as needed.

  • Expect to be physically active at your own pace for up to 6 hours on uneven terrain.

  • Recommended for ages 18 and older due to COVID precautions.
