Celebrating the new Blues Crew Warming Hut at Horseshoe Prairie

Since 2019, the Blue Mountain Land Trust’s volunteer-led trail crew has collaborated with the Umatilla National Forest to provide access to Horseshoe Prairie Nordic Ski Area. Located adjacent to the North Fork Umatilla Wilderness, the ski area offers cross-country skiing and snowshoeing opportunities on groomed and ungroomed trail systems. Featuring around 16 miles (26 kilometers) of marked trails, Horseshoe Prairie is the place to be for winter outdoor ski adventures in the Blue Mountain region.

Dedicating over 1,882 volunteer work hours in preparation for the 2024 season, BMLT Blues Crew volunteers transformed Horseshoe Prairie into a cross-country skiing and snowshoeing destination.

With generous support from the Oregon Recreational Trails Program, volunteers expanded the trail network, enhanced maps and signs, and constructed a NEW warming hut. The new addition offers a welcoming space to warm up, take a break, and connect with fellow outdoor enthusiasts.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to our dedicated volunteers whose passion and perseverance have turned Horseshoe Prairie into a winter wonderland for all to enjoy!
