Welcoming Blue Mountain Land Trust's newest team members
WALLA WALLA, WA – At Blue Mountain Land Trust (BMLT), we believe in the power of collective action. We are thrilled to introduce three fantastic additions to the Blue Mountain Land Trust team: Fraser Moore, our new Conservation Manager; Carlee Allen, former BMLT Communication and Marketing intern, steps into new role as Administrative Assistant; and Jeimy Lainez Valencia as our Equity in the Outdoor Whitman Fellow.
As we embark on this journey together, let's extend a warm welcome to Fraser, Carlee, and Jeimy. Their passion and dedication will enhance our commitment to preserving and connecting communities to the Blue Mountain region.
Fraser Moore,
Conservation Manager
Fraser joins the BMLT after graduating from Whitman College with a degree in Biology-Environmental Studies in 2023. With a background in ecological restoration, biology, and environmental justice, Fraser will lead BMLT’s conservation efforts as Conservation Manager alongside BMLT’s Executive Director, Amanda Martino.
Growing up in post-Apartheid South Africa, Fraser developed a deep awareness of the complex and overlapping histories of social oppression and its impacts on biodiversity. At Whitman, Fraser started a student-led movement to reform Whitman’s colonial aesthetic by removing English ivy and lawn grass and restoring culturally-significant plants valued by the CTUIR, on whose lands Whitman resides.
With climate change poised to disrupt food systems, drive species to extinction, and disproportionately harm BIPOC and marginalized communities worldwide, Fraser is deeply committed to the cause of land conservation. Fraser recognizes the multifaceted advantages that BMLT’s conservation efforts bring to people and is driven by this passion to address the interconnected challenges posed by climate change.
Carlee Allen,
Administrative Assistant
Carlee, a junior majoring in Art and Rhetoric at Whitman College and a former BMLT Communication and Marketing intern, brings her creative and analytical talents to BMLT.
Hailing from Western Colorado, where the mountains and mesas have always been a source of solace and inspiration, Carlee understands the transformative power of nature. Her hometown of Fruita, Colorado is a wonderful place to get outside all year long. In times when Carlee has felt overwhelmed, the mountains are a space where she can go to think, walk around, connect with nature, and forget about the things causing stress. These experiences brought her immense comfort and were always available to her even without access to outdoor equipment.
In her spare time, Carlee’s interests center around creativity, including fiber arts, crocheting, drawing, writing, and playing music. This past summer, she supported our communication and outreach efforts, utilizing her artistic skills and passion for storytelling to connect with the community and spread awareness about our work. In her new role at BMLT, she currently supports critical administrative operations and logistics.
Jeimy Lainez Valencia,
Equity in the Outdoors, Whitman/ BMLT Fellow
Jeimy Lainez Valencia, a junior at Whitman College majoring in sociology with a minor in economics, hails from California.
Passionate about the outdoors and nature, Jeimy is on a mission to provide opportunities for the Latino community to connect and feel comfortable in outdoor spaces.
In her spare time, she enjoys running outside and exploring downtown Walla Walla with friends. Jeimy cherishes moments in nature, whether it's having family BBQs at local lakes in California or uncovering new hiking trails with friends.
Thrilled to embark on this exciting project, Jeimy is eager to contribute her enthusiasm and commitment to Blue Mountain Land Trust.
As we continue to grow, these individuals will play a vital role in driving our mission forward and fostering connections within the community. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to strive for a more inclusive and sustainable future!
