Learning on the Land Returns for 2025.

Blue Mountain Land Trust launches Learning on the Land series.

Blue Mountain Land Trust is excited to announce the return of Learning on the Land, a series of guided outdoor events designed to deepen our connection to the land and one another. This community-centered program offers a range of hands-on experiences in ecology, restoration, and recreation, led by regional naturalists and partner organizations.

By learning about the landscapes that define the Blue Mountain region, participants better understand the natural systems that sustain us and the importance of protecting them. Space is limited for most events to ensure a meaningful experience. We encourage early registration, and if an event fills up, please join the waitlist.

In addition to our scheduled events, BMLT is proud to participate in other community-led gatherings throughout the year, including the Return to the River Salmon Festival, hosted by the Walla Walla Water & Environmental Center and the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR).

Tentative 2025 Schedule:

May 3: Birding Walk and Restoration Work Party at Brewer Wetland
Blue Mountain Land Trust is offering a special day of birding and restoration at Brewer Wetland, one of our protected properties! This is your chance to explore a unique landscape not usually open to the public, spot local and migratory birds, and lend a hand to the land. Presented in partnership with Blue Mountain Audubon and Tri-State Steelheaders.

May 17: Return to the River Salmon Festival
Hosted by the Water & Environmental Center and the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, this free, family-friendly event celebrates the return of salmon to the Walla Walla Basin and highlights the region’s deep cultural and ecological roots.

June 13–14: Phipps Meadow Bird Count & Botany Day
Join Blue Mountain Land Trust for a guided Bird Count & Botany Day at Phipps Meadow.  We’ll kick off the day with a guided bird count using BMLT’s volunteer bird monitoring protocol to document species on the property. After the bird count, join our team and expert botanists, including Michael Stein from Turnstone Environmental Consulting, for a walk through of the meadow and uplands to learn about key plant species and assist in documenting rare or notable flora in bloom.
