  • Kimball Theatre in Hunter Conservatory, Whitman College 324 Boyer Avenue Walla Walla, WA, 99362 United States (map)

THIS EVENT IS POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. WE APOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE.

Blue Mountain Land Trust is excited to debut the 2020 Speaker Series! The Speaker Series brings creative, pragmatic, and practice-based environmental professionals, scholars and community leaders to the Walla Walla Valley to promote awareness and stewardship surrounding important nature-related topics. The series covers issues of climate change, land preservation, and sustainability while highlighting the technological innovation and persistence of individuals and communities across the world to address challenges in creative and inspiring ways.

We are excited to host Richenda Fairhurst as our inaugural speaker. Richenda will discuss the origin of both natural and human-caused climate change, highlighting the impacts on people, animals and landscapes. She will introduce climate solutions through the lens of resiliency and discuss ways in which communities may adopt creative solutions to ensure economic, social and environmental vibrancy through an era of change - specifically addressing what we can do here in the Walla Walla Valley and greater Pacific Northwest.

Richenda serves as a minister for the Greater Northwest Episcopal Area of the United Methodist Church and as Steward of Climate Organizing Director for Circle Faith Future. Richenda’s ministry work includes advocacy for LGBTQIA persons, climate, and those experiencing homelessness. In 2018, Richenda organized a climate conference and training that brought 30 church leaders together with environmental leaders for a multi-day climate advocacy training. She also serves as a Climate Reality Leader and is the co-founder for the Climate Reality Project: Southwestern Oregon Chapter. Richenda’s interpersonal skills combined with her passion for local communities provides a unique and inviting platform to learn about climate change and its associated impacts on people, animals, and landscapes.

We invite the public to come and be inspired by forward-thinking speakers who present cutting-edge solutions to complex problems across a wide variety of topics.
