Join a ranger-led hike exploring the Island in Time trail at the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. As you hike through the green-blue clay stone badlands, the park ranger will point out fossil casts placed along the trail. This moderate hike follows the canyon floor and gains 220 feet of elevation. The Island in Time trail is 1.3 miles round trip.
Dogs are welcomed, but please have them leashed and note that there are 13 bridges with an open steel mesh tread on the walking surfaces. Dogs may need to be carried across these bridges.
Following the tour, you may choose to explore the 3.25 mile Blue Basin Overlook trail from the same parking lot.
