CANCELLED - Blues Crew Work Party: Multi Day Trip at Fields Spring State Park

Overview

Blues Crew is excited to partner with the Fields Spring State Park for a 3 day/2 night trip focused on trail enhancement!

The Park is at 4,500 feet elevation, and has 7 miles of hiking trails varying in width and difficulty.  The trails are used for hiking in the warmer months, and snow shoeing and cross-country skiing in the snowy winter months.  The Blues Crew will work with State Park staff to improve identified sections of the trail system

Group meals will be provided at a cost of $30.

Be a part of this exciting volunteer opportunity! We'll have fun, work hard and make a difference! No experience is necessary.

Notes

This is a multi-day work party.  State Parks is providing a lodge with shared sleeping area and commercial kitchen, and several cabins with bunk beds. 

Pets are not to accompany volunteers on a Blues Crew work party due to work safety concerns.  Pets are also not allowed in the Park lodge or cabins.

Shared group meals will be provided at cost, including 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2 dinners.

Participants will be asked to complete a dietary needs survey to identify allergies and preferences.

Schedule:

Friday, May 1

  • 12:30 pm – Meet at Cascade Farm & Outdoor Store parking lot at the corner of Melrose and N Wilbur in Eastgate Walla Walla. We will carpool from there

  • 12:45 pm – Depart for Fields Spring State Park

  • 3:00 pm – Arrive at Fields Spring State Park. Orientation, housing plan, safety briefing, and dinner to follow

Saturday, May 2

  • 8:00 am - Breakfast

  • 9:00 am - Noon - Work site activities

  • Noon - 1:00 pm - Lunch

  • 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm - Work site activities

  • 6:00 pm - Dinner and evening activities

Sunday, May 3

  • 8:00 am - Breakfast

  • 9:00 am - Noon - Work site activities

  • Noon - 1:00 pm - Lunch

  • 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm - Work site activities

  • 3:30 pm - Depart for Walla Walla

What to wear: You cannot participate if you do not dress appropriately

  • Boots – no sneakers or sandals

  • Long pants

  • Long-sleeved shirt

  • Gloves

  • Eye protection (glasses, sun glasses)

  • Ticks can be present - bring DEET for self and Permethrin for clothes

    A hard hat will be provided by BMLT. For safety reasons, shorts and sneakers are not allowed.

What to bring:

  • Light weight pack

  • Pillow and sleeping bag

  • Water bottle

  • Rain jacket and pants

  • Extra warm clothing in case of wet or cold weather

  • Personal necessities (toothbrush, towel, medications)

  • A sense of fun and adventure for learning new skills and meeting great people!

    Firearms and weapons are not allowed.

  • First aid kit

  • Tools

What it Takes to Do This Work Party:

  • No experience is necessary—just bring a great attitude for working with a team! Blues Crew leaders and USFS staff will provide training and tools as needed.

  • Expect to be physically active at your own pace for up to 6 hours each day on uneven terrain.

  • Recommended for ages 14 and older; under 18 must be accompanied by an adult and a parental consent form must be signed for anyone under 18.
