CRAFT BEER THAT GIVES BACK
BY ALYSSA MARTINEZ NEUMANN
On October 7, the community gathered at Quirk Brewing to celebrate the release of ‘Salmon Says’ Pale ale, a collaboration between Quirk, Salmon-Safe, Mainstem Malt, and the Blue Mountain Land Trust (BMLT). The tasty beer was brewed with Salmon-Safe ingredients, including hops from Goschie Farms in Silverton, Oregon, and malt from Walla Walla, WA based Mainstem Malt. A portion of this beer’s sales goes to support the conservation work of BMLT.
The evening included a panel discussion of regional leaders on the various opportunities in watershed conservation. BMLT Conservation Director Amanda Martino, Kevin Scribner of Salmon-Safe, and Phil Neumann of Mainstem Malt discussed recent work, milestones, and future visions, including the role land trusts play in riparian habitat protection, the Salmon-Safe certification program, and craft malt as a market-based tool for water conservation.
BMLT is incredibly grateful for the teamwork and generosity of Troy and Casey, founders of Quirk Brewing, and their staff for making this wonderful opportunity possible. BMLT looks forward to building a conservation-focused community.
