Overview
Blues Crew is excited to partner with Washington State Parks at Fields Spring State Park for a 3 day/2 night trip focused on trail enhancement!
The Park is at 4,500 feet elevation, and has 7 miles of hiking trails varying in width and difficulty. The trails are used for hiking in the warmer months, and snow shoeing and cross-country skiing in the snowy winter months. The park is located 29 miles south of Clarkston and 4.5 miles south of Anatone, Washington. The Blues Crew will work with State Park staff to improve identified sections of the trail system.
Group meals will be provided at a cost of $30.

This is a multi-day work party. Washington State Parks is providing Puffer Butte Lodge with commercial kitchen, and six cabins with twin bunk beds. Individuals may elect to tent camp or bring a camp trailer to the campground.
Pets are not to accompany volunteers on a Blues Crew work party due to work safety concerns. Pets are also not allowed in the Park lodge or cabins.
COVID precautions are limiting group size and accommodations. We may be able to bring a larger number of volunteers if participants are 14 days past final vaccination date. Blues Crew is following state and federal guidelines which are constantly changing; participants will be expected to wear masks in public gatherings. Carpooling is limited to fully-vaccinated individuals without restriction to number; or 2 non-vaccinated consenting individuals, both masked with improved ventilation.
Shared group meals will be provided at cost, including 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2 dinners. Participants will be asked to complete a dietary needs survey to identify allergies and preferences.

Schedule:
Friday, April 30th
12:30 pm – Meet at Cascade Farm & Outdoor Store parking lot at the corner of Melrose and N Wilbur in Eastgate Walla Walla. We will carpool from there
12:45 pm – Depart for Fields Spring State Park
3:00 pm – Arrive at Fields Spring State Park. Orientation, housing plan, safety briefing, and dinner to follow at 6:00 pm.

8:00 am - Breakfast - Cabins to be cleaned prior to work activities

1:00 pm Depart for return trip to Walla Walla
What to wear: You cannot participate if you do not dress appropriately
Boots – no sneakers or sandals
Long pants
Long-sleeved shirt
Gloves
Eye protection (glasses, sun glasses)
Ticks can be present - bring DEET for self and Permethrin for clothes
A hard hat will be provided by BMLT. For safety reasons, shorts and sneakers are not allowed.
What to bring:
Light weight pack

Extra warm clothing in case of wet or cold weather
Personal necessities (toothbrush, towel, medications)
A sense of fun and adventure for learning new skills and meeting great people!

What it Takes to Do This Work Party:
No experience is necessary—just bring a great attitude for working with a team! Blues Crew leaders and USFS staff will provide training and tools as needed.
Expect to be physically active at your own pace for up to 6 hours each day on uneven terrain.
Recommended for ages 14 and older; under 18 must be accompanied by an adult and a parental consent form must be signed for anyone under 18.
