Tasting Terroir

  • Meet at Walla Walla Community College main parking lot. 500 Tausick Way Walla Walla, WA, 99362 United States (map)

Join geologist Kevin Pogue on a tour through the Walla Walla AVA and Rocks District of Milton-Freewater AVA. On this tour, you will visit four geologically distinct vineyards of these two AVAs to learn how topography, climate, and soils effect the viticulture and resulting wines. Each stop will be accompanied by a glass of wine from grapes grown and sourced from that location.

Our first stop will be Elevation Vineyard located along the North Fork of the Walla Walla River. Next, we’ll visit SJR Vineyard located in the Rocks District of Milton-Freewater AVA. After, we’ll meet Sadie Drury at Seven Hills Vineyard, one of the first commercial vineyards in the Walla Walla Valley. Then, we’ll travel to Pepper Bridge Vineyard  and enjoy a picnic lunch. The day will end with a tour of Spring Valley Vineyard located 12 miles northeast of Walla Walla.

This tour will leave you with a greater understanding of what it truly means to taste terroir.  For more information about this event, please contact Lauren Platman at lauren@bmlt.org or 509-525-3136.
