Join experts Ben Maletzke and Roblyn Brown to learn more about wolf biology and behavior in the Pacific Northwest.
Wolves were exterminated from Washington State by the 1930s after years of bounties and persecution. Recently wolves have returned on their own from neighboring states and provinces, migrating throughout the region based on natural cycles to expand their territories. The Lookout Pack, the first confirmed wolf pack in 80 years, recently settled in northcentral Washington. Wolves continue to recolonize parts of Washington, including the northeast, southeast Blue Mountains, and the central Cascades.
Join Ben Maletzke, Statewide Wolf Specialist for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, to learn more about the ecology and status of wolves in Washington. Ben has worked as a wildlife biologist conducting research and management of black bears, cougar, lynx, and wolves.
Roblyn Brown, Wolf Program Coordinator for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, will also provide an update on wolves in Northeast Oregon. As the leader for the Oregon Wolf Conservation and Management Plan for the past 12 years, Roblyn will share how wolf biology and behavior can be used to understand when and why livestock are most vulnerable and ways to reduce the risk of depredation.
