If you've ever wondered where we get our crystal clean, great-tasting water, then this trip is for you. On this day-long, family-friendly adventure, we'll trace the journey our water takes from the Blue Mountains, into town and back into Mill Creek. Along the way you will be guided by City of Walla Walla Public Works personnel who will explain what happens to our drinking water from beginning to end.
We'll start at the source of our water at the base of the Blues learning about the watershed that supplies our water, the first steps in preparation for drinking, and how it travels 15 miles to town. We'll next discover where and how our water is purified before it reaches our home. What exactly happens to make sure all harmful contaminants are removed? How has our system been updated?
Our last stop will be at the water treatment facility west of town. Here we'll gain a new appreciation of what it takes to treat the 4-8 million gallons of wastewater daily. What are the steps involved? What should and should not go down your drain?
Everyone will come away with a new appreciation of what it takes to ensure Walla Walla's water system always flows smoothly.
Dress for comfort as some walking and exploration will be involved. No open-toed shoes, flip flops or sandals please.
This event is sold out.
