Blues Crew Work Party: Lick Creek Trail

Description:

The Blues Crew has worked hard this season to improve major portions of the Lick Creek trail. A work party on October 6 completed enhancing a portion of the mid-section of the trail and identified a number of additional problems. A scouting party in advance will identify and flag key work areas. The work area will be reached from the Umatilla River Road near Corporation. There will be a 1.5+ mile hike up to the work area from the trailhead. Note that the work area is in a densely wooded area with shade.

Work to accomplish:

  • Major brush work

  • Tread repair

Note:

Pets are not to accompany volunteers on a Blues Crew work party due to work safety concerns.

Exertion Level:

Moderate to difficult

Schedule:

  • 8:00 am – Meet at USFS parking lot on Rose Street in Walla Walla.

  • 8:15 am – Depart for Lick Creek Trail via Corporation Trailhead.

  • 9:00 am – Arrive at trailhead. Orientation and safety briefing.

  • Noon – Bring your own lunch.

  • 4 pm – Work complete. Discussion and beverages at trailhead. Return to Walla Walla.

What to wear: You cannot participate if you do not dress appropriately

  • Boots – no sneakers or sandals

  • Long pants

  • Long-sleeved shirt

  • Gloves

  • Eye protection (glasses, sun glasses)

  • Ticks can be present: DEET for self, permethrin for clothes

What to bring:

  • Lunch & snacks

  • Water (we recommend at least 64 oz)

  • "Leave No Trace": Please come prepared to pack out your toilet paper in a sealed plastic bag.

Blues Crew Supplied:

  • Safety gear

  • First aid kit

  • Hard hat

  • Tools
